Fall Roofing Maintenance Tips

10-6-2014

There’s a nip in the air and the trees are starting to shift hues. As we enter autumn, roof maintenance should be part of every homeowner’s seasonal routine. Trust us, if you wait too long to check on your roof, you’ll be seeing us sooner than you’d like.

The biggest concern for fall roofing maintenance is cleaning your gutters. While those falling leaves may add beauty to your view, they can present a real problem for the water flow from your roof. Along with twigs, dirt and debris, leaves may have built up to clog your gutters since your spring cleaning. Be sure and clear them all out, and check for leaks, loose brackets or other issues. If you have so many trees near your roof that a seasonal cleaning isn’t adequate, you might consider installing gutter guards.

Of course, when it comes to checking out your roof, autumn isn’t the only “fall” to be concerned about. That’s why we don’t recommend you do-it-yourself when it comes to inspecting your roof. It’s a good idea to have a professional check it out for any damage. After a summer of severe weather, you may need some repair to see you through the winter without leaks. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of roofing nails.

If you discover your roof isn’t quite ready for winter, we are here for you. Our roofing professionals in Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati will respect your property, and you can rest assured we have one of the best safety ratings in the industry.
